Profile
Showfu, 祥風, a Japanese calligraphy artist currently residing in Singapore, began her artistic journey at the age of five, introduced to the captivating world of calligraphy by her mother―also a professional calligrapher who bore the same pen name, 祥風. Rooted in tradition from an early age, Showfu's creative path took an unexpected turn when she moved to Belgium, where she immersed herself in fine arts, ceramics, and art history. These experiences expanded her sensibilities, deepening the expressive dimension of her work.
After dedicating 14 years to the shipping and maritime industry in Japan, her passion for calligraphy was rekindled. She resumed intensive training in both Japanese and Chinese calligraphy at a prestigious organisation in Tokyo, earning the title of Master of Calligraphy.
In 2021, upon relocating to Singapore, she founded Nikon Inktion―a name inspired by the Zen term 而今 (nikon), meaning this very moment. To Showfu, calligraphy is a transient yet eternal art form―one that captures a singular moment in time while embodying the path she has walked and the life she has lived. Each stroke becomes a vessel for her experiences, a breath of the present infused with passion, intuition, and emotion. It is a quiet dialogue between tradition and artistic freedom, where every piece emerges as a one-of-a-kind expression of now―unrepeatable, unalterable, and deeply alive.
